Culturally Responsive Palliative & End-of-Life Care Educational Toolkit
Each one of us makes decisions based on what is important to us. And what is important to us is deeply influenced by our cultures. For healthcare workers, understanding and respecting how cultural influences impact the experiences and decisions of residents is essential, especially in palliative and end-of-life care.
Engaging in culturally responsive conversations takes knowledge and practice. This interactive, online educational experience is designed to strengthen your comfort and confidence to engage in culturally responsive conversations with residents, their families, and each other. The free toolkit includes five easy-to-access staff modules with practical, usable content presented in small chunks. The toolkit also includes a leader/champion facilitator module and a helpful resource for families and caregivers.
The toolkit was created by Wing Kei Care Centres and informed by best practice and the guidance of continuing care staff and volunteers, families/caregivers, academics, and other subject matter experts. Staff from several continuing care centres contributed their ideas, reviewed content, and piloted the toolkit to ensure it is a worthwhile experience.
